Touching down in Manhattan for the New York premiere of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Anne Hathaway engineered a high-impact cultural timestamp on the red carpet in a bespoke creation by Prada . Orchestrated by her longtime image architect Erin Walsh , the look subverted conventional maternity tropes through unapologetic architectural armor: a crossed halter bodice saturated in high-gauge metallic paillettes and crystals, punctuated by a geometric diamond keyhole that framed her pregnancy before dissolving into a column of liquid-white plissé satin. Grounded by High Jewelry from Bvlgari and crystal-encaged stiletto sandals by Aquazzura , Hathaway’s appearance operated as a manifesto in modern maternal strength—complemented by a sculpted “Goddess Updo” by legendary hair auteur Orlando Pita , radiant terracotta-toned skin by Hung Vanngo , and glazed glass nails by Momo .
“By pairing armor-like crystal embroidery with fluid plissé satin, Prada and Walsh construct a modern portrait of divine feminine strength.”
Key Fashion Takeaways
- High-Gauge Paillette Armor: The bodice deploys dense, multidirectional crystal encrusting that acts like tactile chainmail, establishing an uncompromising visual tension against the gossamer plissé satin skirt.
- Architectural Negative Space: The diamond keyhole beneath the cross-over halter neck provides deliberate breathability to an otherwise heavily embellished upper torso, anchoring the eye directly at the apex of the silhouette.
- Subversive Proportion Play: Rather than defaulting to a concealing column, the sharp two-tone horizon between mirror-finish metallics and optical-white silk constructs a statuesque silhouette tailored for red carpet impact.
- The Maternal Power Shift: Continuing Hathaway’s red carpet evolution, this custom look treats the baby bump not as something to soften or conceal, but as an integral anchor of high-fashion body architecture.
Hair Breakdown: The Sculpted “Goddess Updo”
To harmonize with the architectural neckline of Prada’s crystal-encrusted bodice, legendary hairstylist Orlando Pita sculpted a luminous, romantic “Goddess Updo.” Anchoring touchable volume at the crown while retaining soft, airy movement, Pita balanced classical red carpet opulence with modern tactile texture.
“For this Goddess Updo on Anne, I started by blow drying her hair with Atmoshield and Plump from my line of hair products Orlando Pita Play for a soft, voluminous texture. I then started waving her hair in square-inch sections with a T3 .75-inch barrel curling iron all over her head. After that, I secured her hair with a hook elastic from Hairpins by Damian Monzillo to create a ponytail at the crown. I then used a stuffing doughnut around the elastic to create volume without teasing and to secure my pins. Picking up sections of the ponytail, I loosely pinned them around the stuffing and secured them with hairpins, also by Damian Monzillo, leaving the ends of each section out. To finish the look, I used 2 fishtail braids made from extensions to decorate the bun at the base. At the end, I lightly sprayed the do with Climate Control Hairspray, also from Orlando Pita Play.” — Orlando Pita
The Step-by-Step Styling Tips
- The Luminous, Plumped Canvas: The secret to modern red carpet grandeur lies in weightless architectural support. Pita began by misting damp strands with Orlando Pita Play Atmos-Shield—an invisible, multi-tasking thermal veil—layered with the brand’s volumizing spray. A polished blow-dry infused the hair with touchable, featherlight body rather than stiff immobility.
- Micro-Chiseled Waves: To create an organic, multidimensional ripple throughout the updo, the hair was mapped into deliberate one-inch square quadrants. Each section was ribboned through a T3 SinglePass Curl 0.75” Barrel Curling Iron, weaving ethereal ribbons of movement that evoke classical Hellenic sculpture.
- The Crown Anchoring: Sweeping the textured length upward to catch the light at the high crown, Pita secured the base using a professional, tension-free hook elastic by Hairpins by Damian Monzillo , preserving scalp comfort while locking in unwavering structural integrity.
- Sculptural Volume, Reimagined: Bypassing traditional backcombing—which risks dulling glossy couture texture—Pita nestled an architectural padding doughnut over the ponytail’s base. The cushion acts as an invisible scaffold, providing immediate height and an immovable foundation for hairpins.
- Couture Drapery & Deconstructed Tendrils: Treating the ponytail like gossamer silk, Pita loosely wrapped individual textured ribbons around the padding. He anchored each loop with Hairpins by Damian Monzillo specialized matte-finish pins, deliberately allowing wispy, deconstructed ends to flutter freely for that coveted, undone romantic air.
- Braided Flourishes & Weatherproof Armor: As an artisanal finishing touch, two intricate fishtail braids woven from hair extensions were coiled around the perimeter of the bun, disguising the structure with intricate bohemian opulence. A fine veil of Orlando Pita Play Climate Change Humidity-Blocking Hairspray sealed the masterpiece against the sultry Manhattan evening.
Beauty Breakdown: Luminous Warm Terracotta Glam
To harmonize with the brilliance of Prada’s silver crystal encrusting and the ethereal architecture of her chignon, makeup artist Hung Vanngo created a breathtaking, warm-terracotta beauty look using his eponymous HUNG VANNGO BEAUTY line ( @hungvanngobeauty ). Vanngo focused on sculpting the complexion with dimensional warmth, framing the eyes in velvety bronze tones, and finishing with an effortlessly modern warm-rose lip.
The Makeup Step-by-Step Tips
- Luminous Complexion Base: Buff Red Carpet Skin Luminous Longwear Serum Foundation in Shade 6 into the skin for a seamless, second-skin radiance that stands up to red carpet flashbulbs.
- Dimension & Warmth: Contour facial high points using Tansculpt Bronzing Contour Balm in Present & Intentional, setting and diffusing the warmth with Soft Focus Blurring Matte Powder Bronzer in Positivity.
- Flushed Velvet Cheeks: Sweep Very Beautiful Velvet Blush in Second Language across the apples of the cheeks and up toward the temples for a youthful, soft-matte bloom.
- Smoldering Eyes: Wash warm bronze and neutral tones across the lids with the Color Story Eyeshadow Palette in Wonderful Warm, defining the lash line with the waterproof Longwear Waterproof Precision Gel Eyeliner in Tie It Together.
- Sculpted Warm-Rose Lip: Outline and define the lip contour with Accentuating Longwear Lip Liner in Follow the Natural Shape, then coat the lips in Creamy Matte Longwear Lipstick in Ke Xuyen for a creamy, hyaluronic-infused velvety finish.
Nails Breakdown
When an ensemble commands the room with dense crystal embroidery and high-shine metallic textures, the beauty direction demands a masterclass in elegant counterbalance. Celebrity manicurist Momo opted for an understated, glassy manicure that epitomizes red-carpet chic—embracing a sheer, tonal neutral wash that highlights healthy, manicured nail beds without competing with Hathaway’s couture gown.
“When the outfit sparkles, keep the nails effortlessly chic. A natural color polish is the perfect finishing touch—simple, elegant, and always in style.” — Momo
The Manicure Step-by-Step Tips
- Prep & Cleanse: Meticulously shape and buff the nail beds to ensure a smooth, uniform canvas.
- Fortify the Foundation: Apply a protective layer of Essie Strong Start Base Coat onto bare nails to strengthen and protect against chipping.
- Layer the Sheer Tint: Paint two smooth coats of Essie Gel Couture in Fairy Tailor, topped with a single veil-like coat of classic Mademoiselle for the quintessential milky-pink, glassy wash.
- Lock in High-Gloss Armor: Seal the manicure with Essie Gel Couture Shiny Top Coat for salon-grade, plumping mirror shine.
- Nourish & Hydrate: Complete the ritual by massaging Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil around the cuticles and nail contours for immediate hydration and red-carpet radiance.
