Miuccia Prada
Miuccia Prada is an Italian fashion designer, co-chief executive and co-creative director of Prada, and the visionary founder of Miu Miu, celebrated for her intellectual subversion, redefining modern uniforms, and championing multifaceted femininity.
Miuccia Prada (born Maria Bianchi in 1949) is widely recognized as one of the most culturally influential and intellectually rigorous figures in modern fashion. Holding a PhD in political science and having trained as a mime before taking over her family’s luxury leather goods company in 1978, Prada fundamentally disrupted fashion history through her groundbreaking embrace of industrial Pocono nylon, ugly-chic aesthetics, and thought-provoking subversions of bourgeois taste.
In 1993, she launched Miu Miu—named after her childhood family nickname—as a rebellious, intuitive playground distinct from Prada’s cerebral minimalism. Under her singular creative direction, Miu Miu has evolved into a global fashion powerhouse, consistently setting cultural agendas with iconic deconstructed collegiate uniforms, micro-mini hemlines, tactile layering, and deeply human runway narratives that interrogate the complexities of contemporary womanhood.
